How Family Therapy can help
Family therapy provides a neutral space to foster authentic communication, trust and connection and find new ways to interact that are based on empathy and understanding.
Together we explore how problems and behaviours are affecting each individual and the impact this has on the relationships within the family.
You can come as a whole family, as a couple, a parent and one child, a sibling group. You can even come by yourself to work out ways to communicate better with family members and establish healthier boundaries and connections.
Family therapy may be beneficial if:
Your family feels stuck in the same arguments, the same unhelpful solutions, and the same outcomes.
You have been avoiding having difficult but necessary conversations for fear of getting hurt or hurting someone you love.
You need to find a way to move through past hurts to collectively care for someone you both love, such as a child or parent.
You want to get back the connection, respect and trust you had in your relationship pre-trauma or tragedy.
Family roles and expectations need to adapt to accommodate life transitions and stages.
How I can help you and your family
I am an Accredited Mental Health Social Worker and Clinical Family Therapist who specialises in helping families heal and reconnect after relational trauma.
My sessions are filled with warmth, humour and authenticity. I take a non-judgmental and collaborative approach to create a safe therapeutic space.
Over the last 15 years, I have worked in the not-for-profit sector supporting children and their families who have experienced trauma, grief and disconnection. I have a strong interest in intergenerational trauma and supporting people to process their experiences and move on with compassion and hope for themselves and others.
I work with children and adults, both individually and as a family or couple. I have a Masters in Clinical Family Therapy and a Graduate Certificate in Developmental Trauma. I am also trained in Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR) and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT).
I am a member of the Australian Association of Family Therapy, the Australian Association of Social Workers and the EMDR Association of Australia.
